PROPOSE A COURSE

THAT YOU WOULD LIKE CCAE TO OFFER

If you have ideas for courses that you'd like to take (but not teach), e-mail your suggestions to courseproposals@ccae.org.

THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TEACH

We welcome course proposals from potential teachers. Complete the following three steps to submit a proposal:

  1. Read the general information below.
  2. Fill out the form on the following page. You'll be asked for your contact information, course title, short description of the class (for the catalog), a short biography, and a few other things.
  3. After submitting the form, you'll see a thank you page. Use the link on that page to send, as e-mail attachments:
    1. Your resume
    2. A course outline or syllabus

We will need all of this information to consider your class.

General Information

We welcome course proposals at any time. We review proposals on a rolling basis for upcoming terms.

CCAE SCHEDULE

CCAE runs four terms each year:

  • Fall Term: late September to early December
  • Winter Term: mid-January to mid-March
  • Spring Term: late March to early June
  • Summer Term: mid-June to early September

We begin planning each term approximately 5 months before the start of the term. CCAE promotes its course offerings through quarterly print catalogs and our website. At this time, registration for a term begins on the day the print catalog is released, approximately 8 weeks prior to the term’s start.

CLASS FORMATS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST

We offer classes in many different formats: one-session workshops or presentations; multiple-sessions (from 2 to 10) classes; one-hour daytime lectures; evening concerts, panel discussions, or lectures; and others.

We are interested in proposals in all areas. However, based on feedback from our students, CCAE is especially interested in course proposals in the following areas:

  • Science
  • Computers
  • Games

We are also looking to increase offerings on days of the weeks and times of the day when we are not already fully booked:

  • Weekdays 10:00 am-5:00 pm; 8:00-10:00 pm
  • Weekends – day and evening

CRITERIA

We use the following criteria in making our decisions:

  • Is the proposed course distinct from current or recent CCAE offerings? (See ccae.org/catalog to review our current offerings.) Have we offered something similar in the past, and was it successful?
  • Does the teacher have expertise in the field that supports the proposed idea?
  • Do we think the class would draw interest from our current audience and/or attract a new audience to CCAE?

The CCAE welcomes both experienced and beginning teachers. There is a long tradition of people learning to become good teachers here.

NOTIFICATION AND NEXT STEPS

CCAE will notify you that we have received your proposal. We review all proposals. If your proposed course or workshop is selected for further consideration, we will invite you to CCAE for an interview.

COMPENSATION

CCAE has a long tradition of providing informal adult education at an affordable tuition, and supports a generous scholarship program. In order to continue this tradition, we offer modest hourly stipends to our instructors, along with one free course during the term in which they teach. We also offer discounted parking in Harvard Square ($5) after 3:30 pm daily.

There are some teachers/lecturers who can afford to donate their teaching time to the CCAE. This is great help to us as we work to keep our course affordable to all.
