E. J. Barnes is a cartoonist, illustrator, and animator. Her gag cartoons have appeared in Funny Times, Fortean Times, and the Journal of Irreproducible Results. Her editorial cartoons have been published in The Recorder, the daily newspaper of Greenfield, MA, and The Commons, a newsmonthly based in Brattleboro, VT. Her comic books can be found at various comic book specialty stores, including the Million Year Picnic in Cambridge.

This one-week intensive course introduces high-school aged students to the basics of cartooning. Students will begin by studying the cartoon as picture with words, drawing on examples from history. Working with pencil and ink marker, students will experiment with using various techniques, such as character design, visual viewpoint, scenery, props, textual cues, and timing to complement their own creative impulses. A materials list will be sent to registrants. Limited to 12.
