For over 20 years, Linda Spencer has edited, copyedited, proofread, and guided manuscripts from inception of ideas through to printed materials. Her work has included trade books, university press books, trade reference books, magazines, not-for-profit newsletters, brochures, videos, and e-technology. She has established house styles and standards, and managed copyediting departments and publishing committees. Linda was managing editor at Adams Media Corporation for four years; managing editor at E.P. Dutton, NY, and Charles Scribner's Sons, NY; and copy coordinator at Fortune, Time, Inc., NY.

Sharpen your copyediting skills on a variety of texts, ranging from books, journals, annual reports, news releases, newsletters, and content for the Internet. Through discussion and hands-on exercises and review, you will learn how to spot and clean up awkward sentences and apply commonsense grammar rules to write with clarity and precision. Establishing a style sheet for various projects will be reviewed. A familiarity with basic English grammar is a prerequisite. Recommended stylebooks will be discussed in class. Copyediting homework will be assigned. Materials included in class fee. Limited to 12.
