To better understand how to work photographically with winter light, this workshop will visually explore portions of Boston's South Shore, along the Atlantic Ocean from Boston to perhaps Plymouth. Students will practice photographic techniques for examining, depicting, and understanding this particular piece of earth, the beauty as well as human impacts. Our objectives are to learn to see and feel widely, interpret, and portray earth-oriented experiences, while also revealing truths about the land. With an astute eye, photography is a tool to examine the landscape (both outer and inner), see shades of light and balance of forms, and discover overarching design principles that might be overlooked during casual looking. We will accomplish this through a combination of examples, exercises, coaching, and writing. To review photos made during the field trips, we'll meet on four Friday evenings. Be prepared to walk in possibly inclement weather, the better to make the photos. This workshop is for fairly proficient photographers so basic photo experience, preferably with manually operable equipment, is required. Students are responsible for providing all equipment and materials. The Center will mail further instructions and directions. If you can offer or need a ride, please indicate this when registering. Limited to 12.

Do put yourself on the waiting list; we work hard to make sure that a majority of wait-listed students eventually have the opportunity to enroll in the class they wanted, or in a similar class.
